Devotional Thought:
Psalm 103:4 - Who redeems your life from the pit, and crowns you with lovingkindess and compassion.
The pit is an ugly place. The image produces thoughts of darkness, loneliness, and a sense of depression. The word "pit" actually comes from a root word that means, "to sink down, depression of the mind." It is a place of despair where what was once so clear is now lost in the silence.
If you're in a pit, it seems like there is nothing anyone can say or do that helps. You literally feel like a golfball and Satan is teeing off on you. Everything hurts, you grow numb, and worst of all - you quit caring.
The Psalmist begins with an exhortation for us to "bless the Lord, and forget none of His benefits." He pardons our sins and heals us of diseases...and He redeems "makes the payment, buys back" our life from the pit.
Whetever pit you find yourself in - He is coming. I know that you reading this does not help, but He is coming. And when your life is redeemed from that pit - He crowns you with lovingkindess and compassion. The word is one of the most beautiful in the Hebrew language. It is 'racham' and means "to love deeply, to have compassion, have tender affection."
When I am rescued from the pit, I find myself crowned with His deep affection...my crown, my glory, is His tender mercies resting on my head. Why? Because I walk freely, out of the pit that He has redeemed me from - wearing the crown of His deep affection on my brow.
He's coming to get you. The truth is - He's already there.
